In my experience with a pinched wire and blown main fuses, the lights didn't work. Both the side stand switch and the handle bar shut off can keep the engine from cranking, which I understand is your concern. Not cranking is a different check from not starting when cranking. Keep checking the starter control circuit for opens or switches not closing. Also don't forget to check the main fuse to see if there is a short or ground and it is blown again. I can FAX you the wiring diagram if needed, let me know direct. If you had the tank off to deal wtih the speedo cable problem, maybe something got disconnected in the process. Max
